Why this exists

For 3,000 years, BaZi (八字, “Eight Characters”) has been one of the most rigorous divination systems in human history. It is mathematically deterministic at its core — given an exact birth time, the eight characters and their relationships follow strict rules. The interpretation, however, requires decades of study.

For most of history, only emperors, ministers, and wealthy scholars could afford a master's reading. The Forbidden City's astrological office once employed dozens of full-time BaZi readers. A modern in-person consultation in Hong Kong or Taipei can still cost $1,000 to $3,000.
